Course Outline
Children’s Services is a practically oriented course, which enables graduates to work in the childcare industry. This qualification covers workers who use organizational policies, procedures and individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care to children, facilitating their leisure and play and enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes. Depending on the setting, workers may work under direct supervision or autonomously and may have limited supervisory responsibilities of volunteers.

Employment opportunities
Childcare Assistant, Family Day Carer, Nanny, Out of School Hours Care Assistant. Graduates have the option to continue into the Diploma of Children’s Services. Children’s Services provides of
all of the prerequisite units of competency for the Diploma.

Prerequisite
Students must provide proof of a level of English proficiency of IELTS level 5.5 or equivalent.

Duration
820 hrs (583 hours in classroom and 238 hours of practical on job experience)
49 weeks divided into four terms, 8 weeks vacation.

Assessments
Assessments are competency based and include a variety of written and practical work.

Study Mode
Full time – minimum 20 contact hours per week, unless completing a repeated unit in the final semester.
Students are not permitted to repeat a unit of study more than once.

 

Year 2 Advanced Diploma in Children’s Services
The Advanced Diploma of Children’s Services is a practically oriented course, which enables graduates to work in
the childcare industry. This qualification covers workers who may operate at an advanced skills level to:

  • Provide specialist services
  • Act as a resource to other workers
  • Work intensively with clients
  • Provide practice supervision of staff including volunteers

Employment opportunities
Service Director.

Prerequisite

  • Students must provide proof of a level of English proficiency of IELTS level 5.5 or equivalent.
  • Students must have already completed the Diploma of Children's Services or equivalent, for direct entry into this course.
  • A certified copy of the Diploma and Statement of Results must be forwarded with the enrolment form OR Students who intend to complete the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Children’s Services should tick all these courses on the enrolment form.
