CAREER PROSPECTS
On completion of the Diploma graduates may:

  • seek recognition as an Automotive Electrician
  • apply for positions as a skilled trades person in the automotive electrical field
  • apply for positions of responsibility in workshop supervision.

Course Structure
The Diploma consists of 45 units and 900 hours of course work practical placement and assessment. The course work placement will be organised by the Institute. The teaching methods used in the Diploma include classroom based teaching and supervised practical components within a workshop and service centre. The assessment methods include written and oral tests, research projects and practical components within a workshop and the workplace. Automotive classes are scheduled at various times throughout the week. Scheduled classes include night classes finishing approximately 9.30pm and Saturday classes. All classes commence at 8.30am. Students are required to attend all scheduled classes.

Note:
In order to undertake the 900 hours course work practical placement and assessment, students must be
assessed as ‘work ready’. The work based components are mandatory for satisfying the assessment requirements
for the qualification. The course work practical placement is currently under review and is subject to change.
