Program Overview
Advance
your fashion studies with a Certificate
IV in Clothing Production at TAFE. The
program includes activities in design,
illustration, sewing, garments
production, made to measure garment
design and production, pattern-making,
computer aided pattern-making and
business studies. Lectures from local
designers and clothing manufacturers
give students an opportunity to learn
more about this exciting industry, and
the annual TAFE fashion parade provides
a showcase for students work. During the
course participants will have the
opportunity to submit entries to fashion
awards such as the Australian Fashion
Design Awards AFDA. Prior sewing and or
design skills are not required to
successfully undertake this course.
Training is provided in a simulated
workroom environment using industrial
sewing machines and cutting equipment.

people and offers a range of career
choices and options. You may choose to
become an Assistant Fashion Designer,
Machinist, Assistant Patternmaker,
Assistant Production Manager, Retail
Assistant/Manager, Made to Measure
Designer/Machinist or to start your own
business.
About Study
This is a
practical course which develops
technical skills required for employment
within the Fashion/Clothing Production
Industry. Study areas include fashion
design, textiles, pattern making,
grading, garment production, and retail
and marketing skills.
Assessment
Assessment is undertaken throughout the
course both in practical and theory
exercises. Assessment is competency
based and requires the completion of all
projects and assignments, written and/or
practical, as set out within the Unit
Study Guides and Workbooks. Written,
verbal and practical assessments make up
the majority of assessments, but
grooming, hygiene, attendance, general
attitude and your application to your
studies are also taken into account.

machinery. Skills are learnt in
constructing samples and complete
garments and cover a range of
industrial construction techniques.
