Diploma of Engineering Technology - Security Engineering (including Certificate III in Locksmithing)

The course that you will embark on has been established for over 25 years. The Security Technology Section courses, staff and students are recognised nationally and internationally for their high standards and professional approach. Graduates of this course have become managers of large security related organisations, proprietors of their own businesses and employees of both state and federal government departments. Graduates of this course are sought after by industry both nationally and internationally. The Certificate III in Locksmithing trains you to achieve the skills outlined for the occupation of Locksmith.

Year 1
Certificate III in Locksmithing

  • General key cutting and lock maintenance
  • Generalised use of resources, catalogues, internet sites & computer software
  • General lock servicing, troubleshooting & recombinating. (changing keys)
  • Security surveys and master keying utilising various campus buildings
  • Opening, servicing and recombinating various automotive vehicles
  • Fitting various locks to timber and metal sections
  • Opening techniques and bypass methods for domestic and commercial locks
  • Servicing, troubleshooting, recombinating and opening various safes and containers
  • Installation and servicing various alarms and access control systems

Year 2
Diploma of Engineering Technology - Security Engineering

  • Advanced lock servicing and troubleshooting
  • Project based Survey and Master Keying systems
  • Project based service and lever lock manufacturing
  • Project based safe manufacturing

The above projects will be based on the content delivered in Certificate III in Locksmithing.

Admission Requirements:

Australian year 12 (or recognised equivalent) or relevant work experience. IELTS 5.5 or higher (or recognised equivalents). Mature Age.

Course Duration:

2 years
2008 - July intake
From 2009 - February and July intakes

Course Fee AUD$:

$10,800 pa Students will also be required to purchase locksmithing tools to the value of approximately $500 before classes start.

Course Outcomes:

Graduates of these courses will be able to seek employment in the Locksmithing industry. Skills gained will also enable graduates to seek employment in alternative industries such as hardware stores and maintenance programs. Upon completion of these qualifications, graduates may wish to enrol in specialisation training to develop a more in-depth understanding of specialised areas of the Locksmithing and Security industry.

Engineering Teaching and Learning Methods:

Teaching staff provide a supportive learning environment with medium size classes and experienced hands on. Classes will contain a combination of theory based delivery and a large portion of practical experiences.
