Work and Study

All Australian student visas are granted with work rights. These are for 20 hours per week and unlimited during semester breaks.

You may be studying a degree or even a short fun or sport course, if you are granted a student visa then you are allowed to work 20 hours per week. If your partner is a dependant on your student visa then they are allowed to work 20 hours per week as well. Work rights do not begin until your course actually starts.

Most courses are usually conducted over a 20 hour week usually 2.5 days however each college has its own criteria. This leaves ample to time to enjoy yourself or take a part time job.

Many people came purely for the enjoyment of experiencing Australian lifestyle, learning a fun leisure activity and working legally 20 hours per week to keep active and build experience.

To work legally in Australia you will need a Tax File Number (TFN) we will help you apply for once you arrive.

Study is great to advance your career and part-time work is great for people who are from countries that do not have reciprocal working holiday agreements with Australia and may wish to seek a career break. Many people seek sponsorship and with legal work rights on a student visa it is a great way to show off your skills to Australian employers. Please remember your prime objective on a student visa is to study and learn a new skill. There is no age limit.

The Australian Government has different criteria for citizens of other countries applying for a student.
