Course Structure
The Diploma consists of 39 units under the following areas of study and 900 hours of course work practical placement
and assessment. The course work practical placement will be organised by the Institute.The teaching methods used in the Diploma include classroom based teaching and supervised practical components within a workshop. The assessment methods
include written and oral tests and practical components within a workshop and in the workplace. Automotive classes are scheduled at various times throughout the week. Scheduled classes include night classes finishing approximately 9.30pm and Saturday classes. All classes commence at 8.30am. Students are required to attend all scheduled classes.

• Prepare vehicle components for paint repairs
• Apply solid acrylic enamel refinishing materials (two component system)
• Apply clear over base refinishing material (two component system)
• Apply clear over base multi layered and pearl refinishing materials
• Carry out de-nibbing, buffing and polishing
• Apply solid colour matching techniques
• Prepare and paint plastic components
• Apply paint touch-up techniques
• Carry out paint rectification and touch up work for solids (two component system)
• Carry out paint rectification and touch up work for clear over base (two component system)
• Carry out paint rectification and touch up work for multi layer and pearl (two component system)
• Apply multi layer and clear over base colour matching techniques
• Apply rust prevention and sound deadening materials
• Apply water base refinishing materials
• Restore vehicle exterior paint
• Clean and finish vehicle interior trim and seats
• Remove, replace fit protector mouldings, transfers and decals
• Clean and polish vehicle exterior paint
• Communicate effectively in the workplace
• Carry out panel repairs
• Plan and manage compliance with environmental regulations in the body repair industry

Note:In order to undertake the 900 hours course work practical placement and assessment, students must be
assessed as ‘work ready’. The work based components are mandatory for satisfying the assessment requirements
for the qualification. The course work practical placement is currently under review and is subject to change.
